The diagnosis of Peritoneal Mesothelioma
The diagnosis of peritoneal mesothelioma is a very difficult process as its symptoms are not at all specific to it. In fact the symptoms are very much in common with various other diseases of the abdomen. The diagnosis of peritoneal mesothelioma generally incorporates the study of the patient’s entire medical history, knowledge of the fact that whether the patient was in some manner exposed to asbestos or not and a complete physical examination. Some other diagnostic tests like CT scan, MRI etc. are also performed.

All these above tests are quite beneficial in doing a proper diagnosis of the peritoneal mesothelioma and are also helpful in determining which form of treatment would be beneficial as well as suitable for the patient. The patient can then be prepared physically as well as mentally for the forthcoming treatment.

Once these tests are completed a proper biopsy is carried out. In biopsy, generally some quantity of fluid is withdrawn from the peritoneal region and confirmatory tests are carried out to ratify the presence of cancerous cells in the mesothelium of the peritoneal region.
